Mississippi Turkey Hunt

When I found out that the Mississippi turkey season was during my spring break, I knew right where I would be. I met up with my buddy Hunter Breazeale in Corinth, Mississippi and the turkey hunt was on! We wanted to get a turkey hunt on film for the upcoming Hunting Square TV show. We had high hopes for the hunt but with a cold front that had just come through the turkeys were not vocal and not quite ready to respond to calls. We checked the usual roosting areas and found nothing. We never even heard a gobble in the 5 days we hunted. It was somewhat disappointing and I thought the trip would be a bust, but we had a second option! We hitched up the bass boat and headed for Pickwick Lake! We mainly used Carolina Rigs and fished in about 12-15 feet of water. The water temperature is still around 59 degrees so the fish are very light in color and not very active in feeding. We did end up catching 6 largemouth bass in about 2 hours but none were really of any size ranging from about 1-2 pounds. All in all I had a great time hunting and fishing with a good friend, and it sure beats the heck out of school/work!
